Most companies find funding one of two ways. They open a catalogue when somebody reminds them, which means the months they were busy are the months they missed. Or they set up keyword alerts, which only catch programmes worded the way they happened to guess.
A workshop with an alert on "Digitalisierung" never sees "Zuschuss fuer Investitionen in die Modernisierung von Produktionsanlagen". Same money, different words, and the firm that did see it applied.

Machinery, energy efficiency, process modernisation. Federal and Land programmes fund this constantly, and almost all of it is written up in German only.
Trades and small firms
Digitalisation, training, hiring, premises. Small programmes with short forms, run by ministries, chambers and development banks, and rarely advertised anywhere you would think to look.
Startups and research-active firms
Horizon Europe, the European Innovation Council, national innovation lines. Written in the vocabulary of the programme that pays for them, which is seldom the vocabulary of the company that could do the work.
Energy, environment and construction
Efficiency retrofits, renewables, cleaner processes. LIFE and the rest at EU level, with a dense layer of Land programmes underneath it that almost nobody outside the region reads.

What people do instead
Searching the catalogues yourself
Free, and it works while somebody has the time. The problem is that it stops the week things get busy, which is also the week the programme you wanted opened without you.
Keyword alerts
They only find programmes worded the way you guessed. Across every Commission programme and sixteen German Laender, that is a narrow net, and you never see what it did not catch.
A funding consultant

Do you cover my region?
The EU Funding and Tenders portal carries the Commission's open calls, which are open to applicants across the member states. For national funding we read the German Foerderdatenbank, which covers the federal ministries, the development banks and all sixteen Laender. More catalogues are being added.
We are a small firm. Is public funding realistic for us?
A large part of the German catalogue exists for exactly that, and the application is a form rather than a consortium proposal. The barrier is usually finding the right programme rather than qualifying for it.
Do I have to read the programmes in their original language?
The programme text stays in the language the catalogue published it in. German programme text is licensed so that it may only be shown unchanged, so we never translate it. The reason each one matched is written in your language.
How much work is this to set up?
